Only in the South

Being born and raised in the South, I've grown up saying all sorts of "Southernisms"..you just grow up hearing your Momma, Daddy and everybody else say them and it's the norm. Of course, now that I live in more of a metropolis area, instead of the small country town I grew up in, I encounter all sorts of people from all around the US. I've had quite a few get a little confused when they hear some of the Southernisms I grew up saying...
If you're from the South, did you grow up saying these things too..or have any good ones of your own? If you're not from the South..do you think us Southern's are crazy?

I'm not from the south but surprisingly some of those sayings I find myself saying a lot! But then again, sometimes I think I'm meant to be in the south lol
ReplyDeleteIf I had a dollar for every time I, or someone else, blessed somebody's heart I'd be a millionaire. Southern sayings are just part of the reason the south is so fabulous! Loved this post!
ReplyDeleteI'm not from the South but I feel like I should be! I say "well bless her heart" all the time :)
ReplyDeleteI use most of those on a daily basis, I've also been adding in, "it doesn't make hill of beans difference" a lot lately
ReplyDeleteyes! I say "shut the front door" and "goodness gracious" a lot. I also say "bless this mess" haha and also that someone is "sweeter than sugar" or "sweeter than pie". got to love southern-isms

ReplyDeleteDef use all of those and if we are not 'blessing her heart', it's 'God Love Her' and of course, 'Good Lord willin' and the creek don't rise'!
ReplyDeleteI'm from Indiana, but my Mama is from Kentucky, and I heard almost all of those growing up. What a cute idea to make them into those buttons!

ReplyDeleteOur area was heavily settled by the Ulster Scots so it's really cool to hear we still have stuff in common after all these years. :)
DeleteWe just had a convo about this the other day at John's parents house! They are from New York and she said it annoys her when people say "fixin to". I say THIS all the time and I guess I didn't even realize that not everyone says this!!

ReplyDeleteI found your blog from charlotte's. I am a raleigh girl too but grew up in charlotte!! I say bless your heart all the time. My husband can even guess when its about to come out of my mouth cause he will stop and say let me guess, bless her heart! Can't wait to keep following!
