My obsession with the Fiddle Leaf Fig tree began about 3 years ago. See my inspirations here, here and here. I was on the hunt for one, and was always coming up empty handed. I don't know if it was just missed luck, but every nursery that I got recommendations for were either sold out or didn't carry that variety. I went so far as to look at local forums with posts of where others had found theirs. I even sent T (bless his heart) out on a wild goose chase multiple times to find one...and nope, never found one. That's until recently, I came across one at a small local nursery and I literally squealed with joy! Now on to read how to keep it happy and not kill it..any tips from those of you who have a Fiddle Leaf Fig..send them my way!
Last week I talked about working on a best-of-beauty post for y'all and I'm hoping to post this next week! I did come across this awesome list of the best new drugstore beauty products of 2016. There are quite a few on this list I am dying to try, like this lipstick, Hydrating bubble mask, this baking soda scrub, and the Pantene Pro-V style series hairspray. I'm thinking of trying out some and posting a bit of a round up post of hits and misses, so be on the lookout for that as well.
One of my goals for 2016 was to learn how to use my Nikon better and then in turn actually use it more frequently. I love my iPhone, it takes great photos but I really wanted to expand my knowledge about DSLR and enhance photos not only here on my blog, but also for travel and family photos. I've been attempting to read as much as possible on online tutorials about tips/tricks for DSLR photography. I've also been practicing a bit on some still shots for upcoming posts, so bare with me as I'm just diving in head first and attempting to teach myself. Eventually, I would love to take a photography class once I've gained a bit more knowledge. I'm also looking into purchasing a 50mm lense, if any of you have recommendations (f/1.4 vs f/1.8) please let me know!
I've been thinking of whipping up some sweet treats in time for Valentine's Day. A few years ago, I tried my first attempt at homemade sugar cookies with royal icing from this tutorial and they surprisingly turned out really well. I used a heart shaped cookie cutter and iced them with light pink royal icing. I'm debating on recreating those this year or maybe even trying out these adorable conversation heart sugar cookies.
Recently we have been chatting about planning a mini trip to the NC mountains and I couldn't be more thrilled to have a getaway scheduled. This past summer we visited Asheville (sidenote: need to do a blog post about that..oops) and that was actually my first time visiting the Asheville area. At first I was less than thrilled...and had convinced myself I wasn't really going to like it (I've always been a beach girl), but boy was I wrong. I ironically actually ended up checking a few things off of My Life List, like swimming under a waterfall. There is just something so exciting about planning out a trip and having it to look forward to.
What are some of your favorites this week? xo, S
