DIY Necklace Display + Giveaway

Monday, June 20, 2016

I don't know about y'all, but I have a large collection of jewelry and I'm always struggling to organize and display it all. I wanted to create something that was not only functional but decorative. Bonus: this display can be hung on the wall or propped up on a shelf!

You all know I love a good do-it-yourself project and this one was especially easy, thanks to the BLACK AND DECKER 20V MAX Lithium Cordless Drill that I used! I'm no newbie to a DIY project, but I usually have to drag out the big heavy drill and end up struggling with it, but the BLACK AND DECKER 20V MAX Lithium Cordless Drill is so compact and very lightweight.

Also, another bonus is I'm offering y'all your own BLACK AND DECKER 20v MAX Lithium Cordless Drill and a 20V MAX Circular Saw! See the bottom of the post for details!

SUPPLIES:
(2) 7.5" x 24" cut wood
(2) 12.5" x 4.2" cut wood
(6) Round pegs cut into 1.5" each (from dowel rod found at Lowe's)
2 x 13/8" Hinge
4 Large screws
Sandpaper
Minwax stain (Classic Gray + Dark Walnut)
White Valspar paint

INSTRUCTIONS:

The wood I used was reclaimed barn wood, so what I started with was already rustic, but I wanted it to be a bit more distressed and also wanted to add some white to it. If you start with new wood, I would follow the same steps, but just add a few more coats of stain + paint.
First I added the 1 coat of the Dark Walnut stain and then added 1 coat of the Classic Gray. After that dried, I added a few swipes of the white paint. Once the paint was hard, I used a bit of sandpaper to distress it. Below on the right is before distressing and left is after distressing..I really liked how the colors turned out.

The dowel rod that I got was unstained natural wood, so I also stained + distressed the pegs. It was super easy and took under 5 minutes.

Then I evenly measured out where the pegs would go on the wood, marked each and then used the BLACK AND DECKER 20V MAX Lithium Cordless Drill to create a hole for each peg.

Then I added the 2 support boards on the back of the display, 1 towards the top and added 4 large screws with the philips drill bit on the BLACK AND DECKER 20V MAX Lithium Cordless Drill  and the other just below it and secured it with the hinge.

To make sure the pegs were sturdy enough to support multiple necklaces on them, I put Gorilla Super Glue on each and placed it in each hole.

I love how this turned out, and I also love that it can be hung or displayed on a shelf! If you make this DIY be sure to tag me or leave a comment below, I'd love to see how your's turns out!

So y'all are in luck- BLACK AND DECKER is offering a 20v MAX Lithium Cordless Drill and a 20V MAX Circular Saw! Just comment below and tell my how or why you would use the 20V MAX Lithium Cordless Drill! Also, check out this video to see how the drill can be used and for a bit of inspiration!

  3. I have always wanted to have some TV trays for those times when we eat dinner in the living room, so I would use these tools to make that. Ideally I would make folding tables, but my skill level may not be ready for that.
